CheckItWorks

Privacy Policy

CheckItWorks's tools are designed to run entirely inside your browser. This page explains, plainly, what that means for your data.

How the tools work

Every test on this site runs entirely on your own device, using standard browser APIs. When a tool needs microphone access, that stream is analyzed locally, in memory, and is never uploaded or transmitted to any server. The microphone and speaker test's short recording, used only to play your voice back to you, is also decoded and held in memory only — it's discarded the moment you leave the page, never written to disk, and never sent anywhere.

The internet speed test

The internet speed test is the one exception to "nothing is uploaded": measuring download and upload speed requires transferring data. Your browser sends and receives random filler bytes — never your files, and nothing about them — to and from Cloudflare's public speed-test servers (speed.cloudflare.com). We don't operate those servers, and we don't run this measurement ourselves for cost reasons; we use Cloudflare's free, publicly available service instead.

Your results (download speed, upload speed, latency, jitter) are displayed on screen only. They are not sent to CheckItWorks, not stored, and not logged anywhere by us. We explicitly disable this tool's built-in option to report results back to Cloudflare, so Cloudflare receives only the raw measurement traffic needed to compute your speed, not a labeled result record.

Data we collect

We don't require an account, and the tools themselves don't send your test results anywhere. Our hosting provider automatically logs standard technical information for every site visit (such as IP address, browser type, and request timestamps) for security and operational purposes, in line with normal web hosting practice.

Cookies and advertising

The tool pages on this site carry Google AdSense. To show ads and measure how they perform, Google and its advertising partners may set cookies or read device identifiers in your browser. Those cookies are set by Google, not by us — we never receive them, or the personal data behind them, only aggregate earnings reports.

If you're in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, Google's consent message appears before any advertising cookie is set, and records the choice you make there.

You can review or switch off personalized advertising for your Google Account at any time at google.com/adsettings, and your browser's own cookie settings can block or delete these cookies wherever you are.

Analytics

This site uses Vercel Web Analytics and Vercel Speed Insights to understand how visitors use the tools here and how the site performs for them. Both are cookieless — no cookies or persistent client-side identifiers are set, and neither uses fingerprinting to recognize you across visits or other sites. They collect aggregated, anonymized data only: page views and visitor counts from Web Analytics, and Core Web Vitals performance metrics (like loading speed) from Speed Insights. We only ever see aggregate trends, never anything tied to your individual identity.

Your rights

Because the tools don't collect or store personal data from your tests, there's generally nothing tool-related to access, correct, or delete. For questions about advertising cookies or hosting logs, contact us using the details below.

Changes to this policy

We'll update this page if what we collect or how we monetize the site changes.
